Research and Exchange between Ruhr University Bochum and IPR Strengthened

The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University (IPR) have concluded a cooperation agreement in October 2017. It is complementary to the existing cooperation between the two universities since 2010.

For the joint activities of the Bochumer biologists and the protein researchers from Osaka, the new treaty gives more visibility and more weight. “The Institute for Protein Research has long been a leader in protein research in Japan, and the Osaka University is among the top universities in the country,” says Prof. Dr. Matthias Rögner, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. “At IPR there is profound expertise in particular in biophysical techniques – including very expensive equipment, which are available for our use. We, on Bochum side, bring our biochemical and molecular biological expertise above all in the photo synthesis and hydrogen production.”

This agreement is expected to accelerate joint research projects between the two institutes and further promote university-wide partnership between RUB and Osaka University.
