Research Overview

Many Proteins form specific 3D structures by folding so that they can function. Revealing folding reaction of protein is a basic problem to understand their structures and functions.

Also, folding reaction relates many biological phenomena. Especially, Alzheimer's disease or prion disease, which are called folding disease, correlate amyloid fibril accumulation made by protein misfolding in living body. Therefore, their detailed pathogenesis should be elucidated.

In our laboratory, we use various spectroscopy (NMR, circular dichroism, IR, etc.) and various biophysical approaches (ITC, ultracentrifugation, etc.) to clarify protein structure in solution, molecular mechanism of folding, and the structure and the formation mechanism of amyloid.
