Master, PhD Course Students / Postdoc Positions


We are seeking a Master course or PhD course Student with an interest in one or more of the following research area: molecular biology, plant biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics. The admission requirements are as follows. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria.


Master Course
    Those who have graduated from a University and obtained a bachelor's degree.
    Those approved by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
    Those recognized by the graduate school concerned as having academic ability equivalent to, or superior to, university graduates.
PhD Course
    Those who have obtained a master's degree.
    Those who at university overseas have completed course equivalent to Master courses of Osaka University
    Those approved by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
    Those who are recongnized by the graduate school concerned as being of academic ability equal to, or superior to, those who have a master's degree.

Furthermore, to promote international scientific cooperation, the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) encourages highly qualified researchers from the worldover to come to and conduct joint research activities. JSPS offers various postdoctoral fellowship programs (see below & JSPS Website)

Short-term Program Young and excellent pre- /post-doctoral researchers from Europe, Canada and the U.S. are invited to Japan to conduct cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other institutions in Japan for the period of one to twelve months.
Duration: 1 to 12 months
Fellow Eligibility:
(1) Be a citizen or permanent resident of the US, Canada, European Union countries, Switzerland, Norway or Russia.
(2) Hold a doctorate at the time the Fellowship goes into effect, which must have been received within the past 6 years, or be enrolled in a doctoral course and be scheduled to receive a Ph.D. within 2 years.
Term of Award
(1) Round-trip air ticket (payment in kind, economy class)
(2) Overseas travel insurance
(3) Monthly maintenance allowance
PhD holders: JPY362,000
Non-PhD holders: JPY200,000
(4) Settling-in allowance of JPY200,000 (For 4 or more months of tenure)
(5) Research support allowance of up to JPY70,000 x the number of months of tenure

Standard Program Young and excellent postdoctoral researchers from other countries are provided with opportunities to conduct cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions for the period of 12 to 24 months.
Duration: 12 to 24 months
Fellow Eligibility:
(1) Be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (JSPS treats Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers in this manner).
(2) Hold a doctorate degree when the Fellowship goes into effect, which must have been received within the past 6 years, or be scheduled to receive a doctorate degree before the Fellowship goes into effect.
Term of Award:
(1) Round-trip air ticket (payment in kind, economy class)
(2) Overseas travel insurance
(3) Monthly maintenance allowance of JPY362,000
(4) Settling-in allowance of JPY200,000
(5) "Grant-In-Aid for JSPS Fellows" (Tokubetsu Kenkyuin Shorei-hi) of up to JPY1,500,000 per year (total of JPY3,000,000 for two years)
